OLDEN & THEO PORTER
IN MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, GREAT GRANDPARENTS, GREAT-GREAT GRANDPARENTS.

To this union or two beautiful people, whose lives were dedicated to enhancing and strengthening family ties, were born 11 children: Furman Porter (Anderson, SC), Vera McJunkin (Brooklyn, NY), M.B. Porter (Anderson, SC), Theo Weatherspoon (Brooklyn, NY), Nina Webb (Brooklyn, NY), Lauretta Williams (Jamaica, NY), Virgie Gaston (Jamaica, NY), Eula Johnson (Jamaica, NY), Georgia McVey, Rufus Porter and Jessie Porter.

Olden and Theo began their early religious training at Mountain Springs Baptist Church. During their many years of service there, Olden served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Speaker of the House while Theo taught Sunday School faithfully every Sunday.

They were strong believers in helping others to help themselves and this motto prompted them to serve as promoters of the American Red Cross, Easter Seal Foundation and a number of other service organizations. Olden laid the groundwork for the organization of the Anderson County Farm Bureau and served as President for over 15 years.

By vocation, Olden was considered by all who knew him as one of the greater carpenters and brick layers during his time. In this regard, he, with the help of his devoted wife, sons and daughters, built a beautiful, spacious (14 rooms) gathered field rock home which became somewhat of a haven for their many grandchildren.

Olden went to join his Maker on August 7, 1947, and on March 3, 1976, Theo died very peacefully in her sleep. We sincerely hope they are reunited.
